Medicine is transitioning toward intelligent systems that sense, interpret, and act, thus enabling real-time, adaptive therapies that merge diagnosis and intervention. The ability to detect, decide, and intervene in real time marks a fundamental shift from reactive non-personalized treatment to proactive personalized care. 

In the new doctoral college (DK) BioDevX this convergence defines the core vision of the participating faculty and of the prospective PhD students.

The main aim of DK BioDevX is to train “bio device engineers”, i.e. future experts with unique skillset in developing novel biosensors, apply them in real-world lab-on-chip systems and in medical devices capable of both diagnosing and dynamically responding to physiological states. The strong interest in this doctoral college is reflected by important national and international cooperation partners. 

Ten PhD project have been defined ranging from fundamental and applied biosensing to applied medical devices. The projects are clearly inter-connected and have significant synergies with ongoing national and international projects. The DK BioDevX strongly benefits from internationally renowned experts and young, motivated scientists out of the Faculties of Chemistry, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, the Faculty of Physics, the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Faculty of Informatics.
