Q. Your questions. Your space for science.
What is Q?
Q ist the new Science Communication Center, opens an external URL in a new window in the Aula der Wissenschaften (Wollzeile 27A, 1010 Vienna) and invites interested visitors to discover current research, ask questions, and actively experience science. The exhibits come from TU Wien, the University of Vienna, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), the three organizations that support the center. In addition to an exhibition, Q will also feature hands-on labs and events.
The project was launched in December 2024, and the opening is planned for 2027.
Who is Q aimed at?
The primary target group of Q is teenagers and young adults in school or vocational training. However, anyone who is interested in science and wants to discover new perspectives is welcome.
How can I get involved?
As a researcher at TU Wien, you can apply for the calls for exhibits. The first call, Science Visualisations, is already open. Among other things, we are looking for simulations, 3D scans, and interactive applications that can be brought to life in an impressive way in the CAVE system. CAVE is a spatial installation in which scientific content can be displayed virtually, three-dimensionally, and immersively on LED walls. The submission deadline is March 31, 2026.
Detailed information about the call can be found at: https://scicom.center/open-call-science-visualisations/, opens an external URL in a new window
If you have any questions, please contact calls@scicom.center.
A second call is planned for fall 2026.
What is the role of TU Wien in Q?
TU Wien is one of three sponsors of Q, thereby creating a new space where science and the public can meet. The active design of Q is an important part of the fuTUre fit strategy. The project is also firmly anchored in the 2025 and 2027 performance agreements.
Since the start of the project, the content has been designed by four representatives each from TU Wien, the University of Vienna, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Bettina Neunteufl, Harald Stühlinger, René Röpke, and Christoph Brunner are available on behalf of TU Wien to answer any questions regarding thematic design, formats, and cooperation opportunities.
