We announce 10 open doctoral positions within the framework of the doctoral college "Biosensors and Medical devices” - BioDevX, which is funded by TU Wien. The expected start date is September 2026 for the duration of four (4) years. The positions are equivalent to part-time university assistant positions of 30hours/week. Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.

The in doctoral college BioDevX, each doctoral candidate will be supervised by two (or more) principal investigators from two faculties with complementary expertise. 

The aim of the doctoral college is to train outstanding young researchers who will be able to develop innovative biosensors and biosystems for a new generation of medical products.

Please rank the projects according to your preference and provide a brief rationale for each selection. Tasks:

  • Deepen scientific knowledge and independent research work on the specific project
  • Presentation of research results at international conferences and other scientific events
  • Successful completion of key milestones within the BioDevX Doctoral College program
  • Participation in scientific events and other outreach activities organized by BioDevX and the TUW Doctoral Center.
  • Writing a dissertation and publications
  • Commitment to teaching, student supervision and examination
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the doctoral college
  • Participation in secondments at partner organizations (where applicable); the extent depends on the research project and ranges from short visits (multiple days) to multi-month stays.

Your profile:

  • A diploma or master university degree in chemistry, physics, electrical, mechanical or biomedical engineering, materials science, biology or a related discipline
  • Experience in relevant research fields of the selected project(s) are of advantage
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English
  • German language proficiency ( B2 level) is preferred; Candidates should be committed to develop sufficient German skills to actively participate in academic teaching

After the initial selection process, the selected applicants will be invited to give a short presentation (either in person or online) about their previous research . In addition, the selected applicants should prepare a presentation on an article relevant to the preferred doctoral project; the article will be sent to the selected applicants one week before the interview.
