Stays abroad for the professional development of university staff (both academic and administrative) can take place in companies, educational organizations, or at universities. The structure of the stay at the host institution may vary.

For non-academic staff, these stays generally consist of short-term work phases, job shadowing, study visits, workshops, or organized staff training weeks. In addition to professional development, the focus is particularly on acquiring language skills and strengthening intercultural competencies.

These types of stays are supported by programs such as Erasmus.
