Personal Profile
Univ.Ass. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Petra HIRSCHLER
cross-border urban and regional development, equal opportunities in spatial planning, planning ethics
Petra Hirschler studied spatial planning at TU Wien and worked with mecca environmental consulting until 2008. Since December 1999 she has been teaching and researching at the Institute of Spatial Planning (Research Unit of Regional Planning and Regional Development) at TU Wien. Her dissertation entitled "Chancengleich - Chancenreich? Regional Development and Gender Mainstreaming. The implementation of the gender mainstreaming strategy in regions with weak development using the example of selected projects" was completed in 2009. Her current thematic focuses are gender planning, the development of urban regions and planning ethics. She is particularly interested in transdisciplinary cooperation and local on-site planning. The basic thesis of her habilitation project "Topography of Values - An Atlas on Planning Ethics" is based on the assumption that – depending on how spaces are structured, planned and built – ethical values also differ. The spatial structure is just another complex level added to this cross-sectional matter.
