The Master's Programme builds consecutively on the Bachelor's Programme in Mechanical Engineering at TU Wien (E 033 245). Consequently, graduates of the Bachelor's Programme in Mechanical Engineering are admitted to this Master's programme without restrictions. For all graduates of other studies, an assessment of the professional suitability is carried out by the governing body responsible for study law.

The career prospects are excellent. A shortage of Mechanical Engineering graduates is predicted for the coming years. The job profiles are diverse and range from working as an engineer in the field of industrial research and development, as a scientific employee at universities or non-university research institutions, as a plant engineer in a medium-sized or large company, as a safety engineer in power plants, as a test engineer or designer in the automotive industry, as an employee in an engineering office or as a self-employed civil engineer, as the head of in-house further education in a large company or as a teacher at a vocational high school, all the way to becoming an independent entrepreneur. The broad basic education of the mechanical engineering degree remains relevant for many years and makes it possible to quickly and thoroughly familiarise oneself with a current problem and successfully develop competent solutions.

TU Wien has excellent international cooperation for exchange and joint-study programmes. Students are encouraged to work as research assistants at the institutes at an early stage. Many students already work as interns or in companies during their studies.
