Target group

Master's and doctoral students with valid admission to a regular degree programme at TUW.

No funding available for visiting students.

Eligible activities

Research grants for diploma theses, PhD theses, or specialist courses abroad (worldwide).

Research stays for doctoral students to promote cooperation between research groups at strategic partner universities, opens in new window.

No funding will be granted for stays abroad solely for the purpose of attending conferences.

Funding period

minimum 1 month to maximum 3 months

Grant amount
  • € 750,-/month for Master's students,
  • € 850,-/month for doctoral students

+ Travel allowance: € 580,- for North America, Africa, Middle East / € 870,- for Latin America, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand / No allowance for Europe and Turkey - except € 250 for stays at strategic partner universities, opens in new window in Europe.

Project assistants are required to co-finance 30% of their costs from project funds.

Application and application documents

  1. Curriculum vitae (tabular form)
  2. Current transcript of records or diploma certificate
  3. Justification for the research project abroad (German or English, 3-4 A4 pages, description of the part of the work for which the stay abroad is necessary)
  4. Letters of recommendation from two habilitated professors of TU Wien
  5. Confirmation of acceptance / letter of invitation from the host institution regarding the study or research stay, indicating the exact duration of the stay (German, English)
  6. Registration for diploma thesis (TISS-Screenshot of thesis - status approved) / Announcement of a doctoral thesis signed by the Dean of Academic Affairs (Form Announcement of a Doctoral Thesis)
    The diploma thesis or dissertation must be supervised and completed at TU Wien.
  7. Architecture students: in addition, portfolio
     

Only one application per project is possible.

Application deadlines:
  • 1 December - 15 January
  • 1 April - 15 May
  • 1 September - 15 October

Submission date: The application must be submitted before the departure or at the latest at the beginning of the stay abroad. At the time of submission of the aplication, the stay abroad must not yet be completed (advance planning is required).

Required documents after your stay abroad
  1. Confirmation of stay from the host institution
  2. Work report of 1-2 A4 pages

Submission deadline: 3 months after return, otherwise the grant must be repaid.
