The torsion chain consists of three rotatable elements that are connected to each other with elastic couplings, whereby the first element is equipped with a DC motor. Physically, this system can be regarded as a three-mass oscillator. The aim of this experiment is to control the angular position as quickly as possible while avoiding oscillations. In technology, similar systems with concentrated masses connected with thin shafts (approximately springs) often occur.

Application in Practice

  • vehicle drives
  • engine test benches
