Sarah Kumnig is a social scientist and studied at the University of Vienna. There, she taught at the Department of Sociology and the Department of Political Science (teaching, opens an external URL in a new window) and conducted research in the WWTF project Green Urban Commons, opens an external URL in a new window on urban development, participation and urban social movements.  
From 2020 to 2023, she worked at WU Vienna´s Institute for Sociology and Social Research on the FWF project Spatial Competition and Economic Policies, opens an external URL in a new window, focusing on social housing policies and provisioning practices in Vienna.
Since 2023, she has been working in research and teaching at the Research Unit Sociology at TU Wien.
She currently leads the project Political Participation in European Metropolies: Strategies and Instruments for Strengthening Local Democracy and works on socio-ecological transformation of peri-urban spaces in the DUT project InPUT
