Sarah Kumnig is a social scientist. Her research focuses on housing studies, urban studies and social inequality.

She worked at the University of Vienna's Department of Political Science from 2013-2016 in a research project on green urban commons, urban development, participation and urban social movements (GUC, opens an external URL in a new window) and as a lecturer from 2015-2019 at the Department of Political Science and the Department of Sociology (teaching, opens an external URL in a new window).

From 2020-2023, she conducted research on spatial competition and social housing in Vienna at WU's Institute for Sociology and Social Research (SPACE, opens an external URL in a new window).

Since 2023, she has been working at TU Wien in the research unit Sociology on socio-ecological transformation of peri-urban spaces (InPUT) and on displacement pressure and strategies to stay put in the Viennese regulated rental housing market.
