Univ.Prof. Mag. Dr. Alois Humer

Alois Humer (*1980) started as University Professor and Head of Research Unit of Regional Planning and Regional Development at TU Wien in October 2025. Before that, he was a.o. an FWF Erwin Schrödinger Fellow at Aalto University Finland and Interim Professor at the University of Vienna and TU Berlin.

His approach subsumes under “Governance and Strategic Planning for a Transformation of Society in Space”. Thus, (i) how do societal activities shape spaces? Consecutively, (ii) how can these at times conflicting demands of housing, health, education, economy, mobility, energy, ecology and such be moderated and guided through instruments and processes of urban and regional planning? All that in order to (iii) support a societal transformation?

Empirically, he focuses on regional scales as well as takes a European comparative perspective; with the ultimate aim of linking research, teaching and practice.
