Rail-oriented settlement development and accessibility optimisation

The project focuses on strategies for rail-oriented settlement development and accessibility optimisation at traffic stations at local and regional level. Case studies will be used to demonstrate how planning processes involving relevant actors, combinable strategies (settlement development, adaptation of the station network, adaptation of the degree of expansion and improvement of traffic links), planning instruments and methods can be used to improve the potential of the railways through active spatial planning and, conversely, how spatial development can be positively influenced by the railways as a driving force. Within the framework of the research project BahnRaum, a practice-oriented, clear and compact practical handbook for an integrated further development of settlement and railway as the backbone of sustainable development is being developed.
