Further training and courses

Since its foundation, one of the most important missions of the Service Point GESTU has been to raise awareness for deaf and hard of hearing people and sign language in the university environment.

In the academic year of 2022/2023, GESTU launched a program for continuing education for employees of TU Vienna. As part of this program, employees can complete a basic course for ÖGS (beginners) and an ÖGS Café (advanced). In the winter semester, the course is carried out in cooperation with BOKU University, which allows employees of both universities to participate in the courses.

In the summer semester 2024, the lecture “Introduction to Austrian Sign Language and Deaf Culture” was added to the program in order to include students of TU Vienna.

Both the program for continuing education and the lecture have been

are attracting a great deal of interest, which means that an important step towards inclusion has been taken within TU Vienna, as well as BOKU.

GESTU Film

The homepage of this website features a promotional film about the GESTU service centre. It was produced in cooperation with BOKU University and released in autumn 2023. In addition to interviews with deaf and hard-of-hearing students and interpreters, the film presents the various tasks performed by the service centre. In the interests of accessibility for the target groups concerned, the content is presented in Austrian Sign Language, written language and spoken language.
The aim of the film is to reach new students who can benefit from GESTU's services and to raise general awareness of barrier-free access for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in a university context.
