Successful autumn excursion 2023

Group picture at Siemens

At the beginning of October this year, the Institute of Energy System and Thermodynamics organized an excursion to Germany lasting several days. As part of this excursion, which takes place every two years, various manufacturing companies and operators from the fields of thermal turbomachinery and energy and thermal engineering systems were visited. The group of 19 students was accompanied by Reinhard Willinger (Fluid Flow Machinery Research Unit) and Heimo Walter (Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering Research Unit). The trip began with a visit to SIEMENS Energy, opens an external URL in a new window in Nürnberg, where industrial steam turbines are serviced. The second day, which included a visit to Rolls-Royce Deutschland, opens an external URL in a new window (aircraft engines) in Dahlewitz, also focused on thermal turbomachinery. The highlights of the third day of the excursion were a tour of the Welzow Süd lignite opencast mine, opens an external URL in a new window and a visit to the Schwarze Pumpe power station, opens an external URL in a new window (Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke AG). The excursion concluded with a visit to the impressive production facilities of Meeraner Dampfkesselbau GmbH. Both the in-depth technical impressions and the personal discussions on the sidelines contributed to the fact that the 2023 excursion was rated a complete success by all participants.
