Research areas
sCO2-Processes
Due to its thermodynamic properties, CO2 is very suitable for various processes. The Research Unit Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering investigates the thermodynamic behavior and the heat transfer properties of CO2 in the supercritical state range.
Projects: ISOP, SCARABEUS, CO2Refinery
Energy Storage
The storage of energy is a key pillar in the decarbonization of the energy supply. The Research Unit Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering investigates various methods of storing thermal energy, for example in chemical, sensitive or latent systems.
Projects: TECHEBAKOV
Energy Systems
The research focus is dedicated to the improvement of energy conversion systems that promote the decarbonization of energy supply through regenerative primary energy sources (renewable, environmentally friendly, and inexhaustible energy sources). A particular emphasis is placed on the modeling and numerical simulation of components and systems to predict their behavior under various boundary conditions. Additionally, promising energy systems, such as those based on hydrogen (H2) and ammonia (NH3), are optimized using both analytical and experimental methods.
