Wir sind eine Arbeitsgruppe, die seit 2021 an der TU Wien an der Kreuzung zwischen Katalyse und Chemieingenieurwesen arbeitet. Unsere Forschung konzentriert sich auf neuartige Katalysatoren und Reaktoren für eine nachhaltige Herstellung von Chemikalien. Unser Ziel ist es, neue Strategien in thermischer Katalyse zu entwickeln, um derzeitige Limitationen für die Implementierung nachhaltiger Prozesse zu überwinden. Das schließt die Katalysator-Nanostruktur, die Reaktionsbedingungen und das Reaktordesign mit ein.
In einer Kreislaufwirtschaft müssen Reaktoren und Katalysatoren in der Lage sein, sich an sich verändernde Chemikalienströme und Reaktionsbedingungen anzupassen und gleichzeitig optimale Aktivität und Selektivität zu Produkten zu halten. Wir untersuchen die Eigenschaften und Performance von multifunktionalen Katalysatoren, basierend auf der Kombination von Metalloxiden, sauren Zeolithen, und Metallionen eingebettet in Zeolithen.
Aktivität und Selektivität dieser Materialien zusammen mit den relevanten Schritten der Katalysemechanismen werden mittels katalytischen Tests in Labor-Anlagen und mit temperaturprogrammierten Oberflächenreaktionen ausgewertet. In-situ und operando Spektroskopie ermöglicht es, das dynamische Verhalten aktiver Oberflächen und deren Antwort auf chemische Potenziale zu überwachen.
We are pleased to announce the publication of our recent paper, “Cu-doped perovskites: Tuning methanol steam reforming performance,” in Chemical Engineering Journal (CEJ), developed in collaboration with the TUCAS Group at Montanuniversität Leoben.
In this work, we explore the potential of Cu-supported perovskite oxides for efficient hydrogen production via methanol steam reforming. By systematically varying the perovskite A-site composition and Cu loading, we demonstrate how activity, selectivity, and stability can be finely tuned within this versatile material class.

We have a new article published in the journal ACS Catalysis, where we investigated Cobalt-doped Iron nanoparticles supported on Ceria to be used and stabilized as self-heating catalysts in the reverse water-gas shift reaction. Over the last two weeks, our group has been actively engaging with the scientific community at two exciting international conferences.
Last week, Maricruz attended the UCRA-4 (Fourth International Conference on Unconventional Catalysis, Reactors and Applications) in Mariehamn, Finland, contributing to discussions on emerging approaches in catalysis and reactor design while additionally enjoying the peaceful sunny days on the Åland Islands!
This week, Nicole Müller represented our group at this year’s Conference of the Federation of the European Zeolite Associations (FEZA) in Napoli, delivering an insightful presentation on “Ni-Exchanged Zeolites for Ethene Dimerization: Linking Cation Environment to the Accessibility of Active Sites.” Alongside inspiring talks and poster discussions, she also had the chance to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the city!

We are happy to welcome Adam Bühring, who joined us in June as a PhD student! He will be working on new strategies to utilize captured CO2, contributing to our ongoing research efforts. We look forward to working together and wish him a successful and inspiring start with us.
