Medical Radiation Physics
The focus of the research area Medical Radiation Physics is on the application of ionising particle radiation in medicine in the context of ion beam therapy. In close cooperation with the Institute for High Energy Physics (HEPHY), opens an external URL in a new window, especially with the Detector Development Department (Thomas Bergauer), opens an external URL in a new window, work is being done on various topics of medical radiation physics or applied particle physics at the MedAustron, opens an external URL in a new window Research and Therapy Centre in Wiener Neustadt (Austria). With the availability of proton beams up to 800 MeV and carbon beams up to 400 MeV/nucleon, MedAustron, opens an external URL in a new window offers a unique research opportunity in Austria for particle physics and its application in particle therapy.
Enthusiastic students are an essential pillar of our research projects. Therefore, the necessary qualifications to be able to contribute optimally to the individual projects are taught in specialised courses at the TU Wien. This provides excellent opportunities for students to pursue their interest in medical applications of physics.
