Our group conducts research in Medical Radiation Physics , opens an external URL in a new windowand Accelerator Physics, opens an external URL in a new window to advance both the provision and application of ionizing particle radiation in medicine, particularly in the context of ion beam therapy. Experimental activities are primarily performed during dedicated research beam time shifts at the MedAustron, opens an external URL in a new window center for ion beam therapy and research in Wiener Neustadt.  This center offers unique research opportunities in Austria, with a dedicated non-clinical research irradiation room in which users have access to proton beams up to 800 MeV as well as carbon and helium ion beams up to 400 MeV per nucleon.

Our research projects in particle physics and their application in particle therapy are carried out in close collaboration with the Marietta Blau Institute for Particle Physics (MBI), opens an external URL in a new window, in particular with the Detector Development, opens an external URL in a new window department headed by Thomas Bergauer, opens an external URL in a new window. In the field of accelerator physics, there are close collaborations with MedAustron’s engineering and accelerator technology groups.

Motivated students play a vital role in our research projects. Specialized courses , opens an external URL in a new windowat TU Wien provide the necessary qualifications, giving students excellent opportunities to pursue their interests in accelerator and medical radiation physics.
