hosted by TU Wien

We are excited to announce that the TU Wien will host a Winter School from 13th to 25th of November 2025 Approximately 20 students from IIT Bombay, India will travel to Vienna, Austria specifically for this special event.
The Winter School offers participants a unique opportunity to engage in an intercultural and interdisciplinary environment, fostering collaboration across backgrounds and fields. The program will combine theoretical and practical learning through a dynamic mix of hybrid lectures, site visits/excursions, and hands-on sessions — including an intensive design thinking workshop.

Goal

Due to climate change measurements in the area of sustainability are becoming more and more important. The built environment causes around 40% of CO² emissions worldwide. The Winter School aims do provide students with the knowledge of sustainability, green energy provision and the legal framework like Environment, Social Governance (ESG). As form most companies ESG is seen as a cost driver also smart technologies are in the focus as enabler of sustainability measurements and the transition to net zero. This Winter School is to foster innovation in the area of real estate and facility management not only due to knowledge and technology transfer but also by the application of the design thinking method in a real use case scenario.

Teaching Methods

The basic knowledge is provided by physical and hybrid lectures.
Based on this, workshops are used to provide the competence to apply the theoretical knowledge.
The final week is used for a problem based “design thinking” workshop (hackathon).
Based on real world problem statements, the students are to apply their knowledge using the “design thinking” methodology to find innovative solutions.
