Partnerships and innovative projects
Innovative solutions for the further development of academic life and the role of academic libraries are important to us here at TU Wien Bibliothek. For this reason, we are working closely on a number of projects with researchers and teaching staff. Partnerships for exhibitions or events, such as lecture series, are also a priority for us in providing low-threshold access to academic knowledge.
- AT2OA2: The successor to the first Austrian Transition to Open Access project, "Austrian Transition to Open Access 2 (AT2OA²)" aims to further advance the transformation from closed to open access for scientific publications. For more information on the five subprojects, visit the AT2OA2 website.
- EOSC Focus: This project supports the EOSC Association in establishing the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), continuing the completed H2020 project "EOSC Secretariat", but in direct cooperation with the EOSC Association (which also acts as coordinator).
- GIGAR-V (RDA-EOSC Future Call): TU Wien Bibliothek is leading an international project to collect cross-domain requirements regarding the use of terminologies in the research environment, assess their compliance with standards and finally to improve the governance of existing software frameworks that manage terminologies.
- Linked Open Data: Library metadata provide standardised access to OAI interfaces, contributing both to the semantic web and to the web of FAIR data and services. The implementation goal is the creation of an experimental and operationally orchestrated software architecture for the machine enrichment of metadata as a basis for the interaction of existing systems such as Alma, reposiTUm, CatalogPlus and linking to TU Wien research data.
- OPUSH: An essential prerequisite for sustainable development is that it unfolds from within, and is supported by, local communities. The OPUSH (Open Urban Sustainability Hubs) project aims to make knowledge on sustainable development and transformative action more visible and traceable, and empower the local community by granting permanent access to open knowledge ecosystems. Thereby, OPUSH enhances the role and capacity of libraries within Open Science and through Citizen Science as a driver of sustainable development.
- PID Use Cases: TU Wien Bibliothek contributes a IGSN iD use case and a RAiD use case to advance the development of these PIDs. Standardised methods of IGSN (International Generic Sample Number) will make it possible to identify, cite and localise physical samples. These specifications are to be identified by TU Wien Bibliothek from existing practices of scientists at TU Wien, compared, and compiled as a use case. Based on the specifications of RAiD (Research Activity Identifier), TU Wien Bibliothek will identify the requirements of TU Wien for this persistent identifier for research projects, which is currently being developed.
- Responsible Metrics: The project goal is identifying and discussing suitable indicators and their potential applications, especially in the context of Open Science. The work is carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
- Skills4EOSC: Skills4EOSC brings together leading experiences of national, regional, institutional and thematic Open Science (OS) and Data Competence Centres from 18 European countries with the goal of unifying the current training landscape into a common and trusted pan-European ecosystem, in order to accelerate the upskilling of European researchers and data professionals in the field of FAIR and Open Data, intensive-data science and Scientific Data.
- Artificial Researcher in Science: In this third-party-funded research project, academic research tools of the future are improved by using artificial intelligence and text mining.
- AT2OA: The “Austrian Transition to Open Access (AT2OA)” project, funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, has significantly advanced the transformation to an open science culture. TU Wien Bibliothek has been active in all subprojects. Visit the AT2OA website for an overview of publications, presentations and events in connection with the AT2OA project.
- CO-VERSATILE: The Horizon 2020 project CO-VERSATILE was launched by 21 partners from across Europe to boost manufacturing responsiveness to counteract the shortage of vital medical equipment and protect caregivers and citizens. The project is an answer to a Covid urgent action initiated by the EU.EOSC Secretariat: Through our participation in the H2020 project, we were significantly involved in the realisation of the European Open Science Cloud and in the development of sustainable research infrastructures for Europe.
- Smart Campus: This project is funded within the TU Wien digitalization initiative. A simulation model of the library building provides data for research and teaching, and for a sustainable renovation concept for the library building.
