In June 2025, Benjamin EICHINGER successfully completed his habilitation, thereby obtaining the teaching license (venia docendi) in Mathematics. The Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing warmly congratulates Privatdozent Dr. Benjamin Eichinger on this important milestone in his academic career.
Benjamin studied Mathematics at Johannes Kepler University Linz, where he received his diploma in 2014 and earned his doctorate with distinction in 2017. As part of an FWF Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship on “Extremal polynomials on subsets of the unit circle” (Grant J4138), he conducted research at Lund University (Sweden) in 2018 and at Rice University in Houston (USA) in 2019, before returning to JKU Linz in 2020 during the fellowship’s reintegration phase. From 2021 to 2024, within his FWF stand-alone project “Szegö theorems for semi-bounded real sets” (Grant P33885), he was a member of the Functional Analysis research group (Prof. Harald WORACEK) at ASC. During this time, he also taught research-led courses in Functional Analysis, Orthogonal Polynomials, and Hardy Spaces. Since October 2024, he has been a Lecturer at Lancaster University, UK.
A central focus of his scientific work lies in uncovering fundamental connections between Schrödinger operators and their spectra, which he investigates using methods from operator theory, function theory, and potential theory. A particular highlight is his forthcoming publication “An approach to universality using Weyl m-functions” in the prestigious “Annals of Mathematics”.
As part of his habilitation, Benjamin Eichinger impressed both the external reviewers and the habilitation committee with his broad expertise—also evident in his numerous publications in leading journals—as well as with an excellently prepared teaching lecture. As a former handball goalkeeper for HC Linz AG, where he played in Austria’s top league, he approached the habilitation colloquium with the same composure and confidence, and distinguished himself as a dedicated teacher for the next generation of mathematicians.
ASC wishes Priv.-Doz. Dr. Benjamin Eichinger all the best and continued success in his academic career!
