The Digital Teaching and Learning Service Unit offers advice for making the most of the central e-learning platform, TUWEL. The advice on offer not only covers the basic technological and didactic principles, but also includes workshops for extending knowledge and specific TUWEL functions.

In addition to the programme in the TISS Continuing Education Catalogue, we also offer individual consultations or training sessions on implementing courses with TUWEL. Our team of advisers clarifies your project with you and helps you select suitable TUWEL features. Our consultancy services are ideal for small groups, that is, three or more people from one institute. Training can be provided in German or English. Online examinations with TUWEL

The Distance Learning Team's TUcoLAB division offers a comprehensive guide to preparing online tests and exams with TUWEL (Link, opens an external URL in a new window). However, experience shows that individual requirements or subject-specific questions often arise, which require an individual consultation. We would be happy to support you in this regard as part of our weekly Online consultations. We would be happy to assess, e.g. the settings for your TUWEL course and tests and the configuration of various TUWEL question types, etc.

Training courses for Zoom

We offer training for the web conferencing tool Zoom to all teaching staff and colleagues at TU Wien:

"Tips and tricks for successful online teaching with Zoom"

Workshop participants have the opportunity to work on their virtual presence as well as adopt the moderator role in practice to successfully initiate and moderate virtual communication:

  • Avoid moderation and communication pitfalls in web conferencing
  • Maintain interest and enthusiasm
  • Tips and tricks for successfully communicating course content in the online setting
  • Valuable presentation rules and technical finesse in web conferencing
  • Use of web conferencing: Limits and opportunities in the context of online examinations

Workshop participants learn about specific features of Zoom that can be used for high quality online teaching. These include white board, the use of breakout rooms, chat functions, etc.

E-tutoring training for students

The Digital Teaching and Learning team offers students the opportunity to acquire key e-tutoring knowledge and skills as part of the course "015.087 - E-tutoring, moderation of e-learning". After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Independently moderate simple online course unit structures.
  • Evaluate and use features in TUWEL courses (Moodle) from a teaching and didactic perspective.
  • Avoid online moderation pitfalls.
  • Complete target group analyses and assign the outcomes to online learning settings.
  • Identify and consider conditions of virtual group development.
  • Acquire information about current e-learning tools and select those appropriate for their training requirement.
  • Distinguish between different responsibilities, skills and roles of e-tutors.

 

Target group: The course with exercises is chargeable as transferable skills. The course concept can also be tailored as a continuing education programme for tutors of individual faculties, to acquire media skills.

Lifelong learning

The Digital Teaching and Learning team offers students the option to immerse themselves in the field of lifelong learning as part of the course "015.118 - Adult education and lifelong learning". After successfully completing the course, students will be able to identify relevant positive and negative influencing factors on individual (and thus their own) learning opportunities, as well as analyse their impact and explain this in theoretical terms.

Target group: Transferable skills (particularly: learning how to learn), computer science education
