This theatrical monologue is inspired by Six Women Who Changed the World: The Great Female Scientists of 20th-Century Physics by Gabriella Greison. The monologue spans over the powerful stories of six pioneering women in science: Marie Curie, Lise Meitner, Emmy Noether, Rosalind Franklin, Hedy Lamarr, and Mileva Marić. Born within a span of fifty years, these women lived and worked during the pivotal, turbulent decades of the 20th century -- years marked by terrible wars but also by groundbreaking scientific advancements. Their stories are magnificent, though not always cheerful. They are true accounts of both successes and failures. These icons of 20th-century science paved the way for future generations, and today, more and more women are embracing science with passion and purpose.
Let's begin the new semester with a celebration of the rich intersection between science, history, and storytelling -- with a special focus on the contributions of women in STEM.
FemPhys is a community dedicated to empowering women in physics.
