At the upcoming 2025 Library Congress, TU Wien Bibliothek will address highly relevant topics that redefine the role of modern libraries in a changing world. The focus will be on integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into library services, digitizing historical catalogs, and promoting sustainability and community building.
A key topic is the use of artificial intelligence. The expansion of interfaces for LLMs will be presented, highlighting their potential to enhance the efficiency of library services. Additionally, experiences from a retro-cataloging project, where digitization and pattern recognition play a central role, will demonstrate how innovative technologies can make historical collections accessible.
Furthermore, TU Wien Bibliothek will address the issue of “Predatory Publishing” and explore how targeted facilitation work at Austrian universities can combat questionable publishing practices.
A workshop on the role of libraries in Citizen Science will emphasize social responsibility and the importance of community building for sustainable development. Another focus will be on transforming urban sustainability through Open Urban Sustainability Hubs (OPUSH) and the shift from scientometric services to dynamic knowledge maps.
As a special highlight, TU Wien Bibliothek will offer exclusive guided tours on topics such as the Data Visualization Space, Green Library, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These tours will showcase how research libraries can contribute to sustainable development and knowledge exchange. The tours can also be attended free of charge without participating in the congress.
