What's new about the TU Wien DMP Tool?

The latest updates have brought some new features to TU Wien's DMP creation service. We present the most important ones.

The TU Wien DMP Tool, opens an external URL in a new window has supported researchers at TU Wien in creating data management plans (DMPs) for almost three years. The feedback we have received from users during this time has been fundamentally positive: on the one hand, it has shown that the tool is popular and that the result – a DMP draft in a funder-specific format – is a great help to researchers on their way to a good DMP. Secondly, the feedback provided us with important information on bugs and additional requirements. Many thanks for that!

The tool is based on DAMAP, opens an external URL in a new window, an open-source software in whose development employees of the Centre for RDM are also significantly involved. After a critical review, most of the new features in DAMAP are incorporated into the TU Wien DMP Tool by Campus IT. Many of these updates improve the tool invisibly in the background or affect the admin area. However, some are also directly recognisable and useful for users.

New user interface

The redesign of the user interface is probably the most noticeable feature for users. The visual presentation has been personalised, modernised, and made more flexible so that the tool can also be used on smaller devices such as tablets.

Instructions in the export document

The templates for the export documents in Word format have been updated and provided with a cover sheet with tips for completion. This is an additional reminder that the exported DMPs are not yet finalised but must be carefully checked and completed. The exported document is to be seen as a suggestion and framework that can be adapted and expanded as required and desired.

Direct line to the TU Wien data repository

If you have uploaded your research data to TU Wien Research Data, opens an external URL in a new window, the data repository of TU Wien, you can transfer the information about this dataset to the DMP with just one click. To do this, use the new "Add to DMP" button at the bottom left of the start page of your dataset in the repository.

Access from anywhere

In the past, the TU Wien DMP tool was only accessible within the TU Wien network or via VPN. Fortunately, this has now changed: Use the DMP tool wherever you are!

What's next?

We look forward to offering you a preview of the DMP draft in the TU Wien DMP Tool before the actual export soon.

In addition, starting today, DAMAP community meetings, opens an external URL in a new window will be held in Zoom on the last Tuesday of every month at 2.30 pm to discuss suggestions, requests, feedback and any bug reports relating to the open-source product our DMP tool is based on. The online meeting is open to everyone, you are welcome to join if you are interested.

Of course, you can also talk directly to us about your questions, requests, and suggestions for improving the TU Wien DMP Tool, preferably by sending an e-mail to research.data@tuwien.ac.at.
