Together with 15 ERASMUS students from all over Europe, who were guests of the Hogeschool Utricht, opens an external URL in a new window at the Institute of Spatial Planning, we went on a two-hour walking tour through the Viennese district of Ottakring on May 26, 2025. The guides were Jaco de Beur and Hartmut Dumke. Stops included the Gürtelbögen, the Kunsttankstelle, the Garage Grande, the redesigned Johann-Nepomuk-Berger-Platz, the Ottakringer Brewery and Ottakringer Straße, many extension and redevelopment projects, the Gebietsbetreuung, and of course the Yppenmarkt and Yppenplatz. On the way, we used these special places to talk about gentrification, migration, diversity and art as a driver of urban development in the dynamic and very colorful district of Ottakring. What a pleasure!
