The Cross-cultural Engineering Project (CEP) Winter School is an intensive, interdisciplinary program designed to develop students’ problem-solving skills through global collaboration. Hosted by Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) in Japan, the program brings together 80 students—40 from SIT and 40 from partner universities worldwide—for a unique opportunity to engage in international project-based learning.
Program Objectives
The CEP aims to cultivate the ability to create optimal, holistic solutions to real-world challenges by applying systems thinking, systems methods, and systems management. Participants will work in cross-cultural teams to address issues proposed by industry and community stakeholders, progressing through:
- Icebreaking and team formation
- Requirement analysis and goal setting
- Design review and budget planning
- Prototyping and stakeholder feedback
- Final presentations

- Field trip and workshop in Nasu, combining cultural exchange and project work

Participant Eligibility
- Bachelor’s 3rd year or higher, up to Master’s 2nd year
- Enrolled at an SIT partner university
- Strong English communication skills (CEFR B2 equivalent or higher)
- Official nomination by the home university’s international office
