Vienna was selected as the host city for the 37th International Conference on Photonic, Electronic and Atomic Collisions (ICPEAC) in 2031 at this year’s ICPEAC in Sapporo, Japan. The successful bid was presented by Richard Wilhelm, who prevailed over a strong competing proposal from Stockholm. In addition to this major success, Richard Wilhelm was also elected as the new Treasurer of ICPEAC, becoming a member of the Executive Committee.

Fritz Aumayr, who served on the Executive Committee for eight years and was the International Chair of the 2023 ICPEAC in Ottawa, stepped down from the committee at the conclusion of this year's conference. There were also changes to the General Committee: Elisabeth Gruber from the University of Innsbruck (and former member of the Atomic and Plasma Physics group) was elected to serve as a member of the General Committee for the next two ICPEACs (2027 in Hamburg and 2029 in Changchun, China).

The Atomic and Plasma Physics Research Unit at TU Wien contributed significantly to the scientific programme in Sapporo:

  • Fritz Aumayr gave a 60-minute invited tutorial lecture,
  • Richard Wilhelm delivered a 30-minute invited talk,
  • Victoria Vojtech presented a 15-minute special report on current research results.
  • Poster presentations were given by Johannes Brötzner, Alexander Redl, Florian Simperl, and Wolfgang Werner.

A strong international signal for the visibility of Austrian atomic and plasma physics!
