200th journal article published by Dr Michael Stöger-Pollach

First page of the paper

“Electron microscopy is needed,” Michael Stöger-Pollach notes. The large number of publications is thanks to USTEM’s extensive network of cooperation partners, who themselves are doing great research work. “But what would USTEM be without its own research focus? In order to remain fit for the future, the USTEM employees' own research is essential.” Of these 200 publications, 17% are publications of their own research results.

The 200th journal paper is dedicated to the advantages of electron microscopy with low acceleration voltages. This topic remains very exciting, as one of the two new TEMs purchased by TU Wien was also built for atomic resolution at 20 keV electron beams. ‘In 2006, I was a pioneer with EELS at only 60 keV. For around 10 years, this relatively low high voltage has become standard,’ explains Dr Stöger-Pollach. However, even lower beam energies can be advantageous. And that is precisely the subject of this review article.
