Focus

The scientific focus of the research group lies in the development and application of new and improved methods for the analytical characterization of materials. The aim is to investigate samples from the environment, biology, and medicine, as well as technological materials in particular, at the elemental and molecular level and to obtain detailed information about their composition, structure, and properties. Modern analytical methods such as ICP-MS/OES, LIBS, AFM, STM, SEM/EDX, TOF-SIMS, and chromatographic methods such as HPLC and GC in combination with mass spectrometry are used. The research is applied in the determination of inorganic or organic trace components in polymers, ceramics, metals, and composite materials, the analysis of element distributions in these materials, and the chemometric and automated evaluation of the measurement data obtained using machine learning algorithms.
