The step from school to university is a huge one. You have to leave your class, you are all of a sudden on your own, you are just a number. We mentors become the personal point of contact for first-year students, helping them to find their way through university as quickly as possible and to navigate their way around, but also to network with people who have the same interests.

"Being a mentor allows me to gain and develop leadership and counseling skills. By guiding my mentees, I have learned to respond to individual needs and to identify problems and solve those. These skills are very valuable not only for my academic career, but also for my future profession."

"As a mentor in the mentoring program at TU Wien, I had the unique opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with young, motivated students. In the process, I was not only able to help them, but also benefit from the experience myself and grow personally."

"The mentoring is an important addition to our studies, both for us mentors and for mentees. The wide range of content-related support at the beginning of the studies and joint activities during the semester is exactly what I missed a little when I started my own studies. We mentors also learn a lot by stepping into the role of leaders and leading a group on our own."

"The mentoring program opens up new perspectives for me as a mentor and for my mentees, extends our horizons, and allows us to create precious networks."

"As a mentor, I was able to make it possible for the first-semester students to start their studies more easily and provide them with a personal contact person. During the sessions, questions were answered and friendships were made so that students could study successfully together.“

"Why I became a mentor? Because studying at the TU is incredibly exciting and cool - it only can be done, with the right mindset and a network. It was important for me to support my mentees as much as possible so that they can look back on their study life in such a positive way later on as I do.
Managing this task is also a great challenge for us mentors: leading a group of young adults requires the right balance of relaxedness and strictness, but often also just a precise planning and preparation in the background."
