On July 3, 2025, the expert symposium “50 Jahre Gefahrenzonenplanung in Österreich im Einflussbereich des Forstgesetzes”, opens an external URL in a new window took place in Graz. More than 100 experts from science, administration, and practice accepted the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK). The event focused on a review of past developments, the current state of hazard zone planning, and future perspectives in the field of torrent and avalanche control (WLV).

Barbara Steinbrunner, opens an external URL in a new window, from the Department of Land Policy and Land Management, gave a presentation on „Einschätzung der Gefahrenzonenplanung aus Sicht der österreichischen Raumentwicklung“. She also took part in a panel discussion on national aspects of hazard zone planning.

Other panelists included Florian Rudolf-Miklau and Andreas Pichler (BMLUK), Alexander Podesser (Geosphere Austria), Franz Sinabell (WIFO), and Andrea Teschnigg (Province of Styria).
