Diversity Management

Diversity management at TU Wien

It is a special concern of the TU Vienna to support all university members in their different life phases and career paths, in all their differences and similarities. The aim of the TU Diversity Management is to achieve a positive overall atmosphere at the TU Vienna, to prevent social discrimination of employees and students and to improve equal opportunities.

Diversity means diversity of people and ways of life. Diversity aims to recognize and value all people regardless of their social or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age, physical or mental abilities or other characteristics.

It is not only a matter of perceiving the differences between people and their lifestyles, but also of discovering similarities. For example, two people may have different worldviews or gender identities, but the same educational background, and both may be parents of a disabled child.

Since the individual identity characteristics are evaluated unequally (e.g. men and women, people with and without disabilities, younger and older people), affiliations are located in social power relations. These affiliations thus influence a person's identity and influence in society or within an organisation.

Each year, the Diversity Board defines key issues for which measures are developed and implemented on the one hand and (information) events are organised on the other. The Diversity Board consists of:

the Vice Rector for Personnel and Gender
    diversity management
one representative of the Vice-Rectorate for Studies and Teaching and of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Innovation
    Representative of the works council
    Representatives of the AKG
    Representatives of the Senate
    Representatives of the HTU
    occupational medicine
the person responsible for the care of the disabled and the representative for the disabled
    the Compatibility Officer(s)
of the Department of Gender Competence

All those who would like to expand their diversity competencies, or who would like to further their education on the topic of diversity in general, will find corresponding seminars in the PE program under the category "Diversity".
