General information about the course

The CONCRETE STUDENT TROPHY was an interdisciplinary course with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary cooperation between students of civil engineering and architecture, as well as the cooperative development of an architectural design with a focus on the constructive elaboration.

The design of the supporting structure should give a significant role to the material CONCRETE and the principle of LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION. The optimised construction in concrete, in terms of operation and energy, was another important criterion.

This course was initiated in 2006 and has been offered every summer semester since then to students of the Faculties of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the TU Wien. Since 2006, the Austrian Cement Industry Association has been organising a student competition in parallel with the course at the university, in which prizes are awarded for innovative and creative engineering and architectural achievements. The successful cooperation between our institutes was also reflected in the winners of the competition. Since its inception, projects by our students have been among the winners of the competition.

Every year, the CONCRETE STUDENT TROPHY took up current topics in architecture, with a wide range of locations, scales and functions being the focus of the competition.
