Mission Statement

Our aim is to promote innovation in design and planning processes through the use of digital technologies in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment at the highest international level. Through multidisciplinary research and an integrated design approach with computer-aided modelling, prediction and optimization, we strive for higher design quality, processes and energy and resource efficiency.

We conduct basic and applied research for:
Digital platforms for the circular economy-linking material manufacturing, design, construction and operations to increase resource efficiency, recycling and waste reduction; through BIM-based material passports and LCA.
Digital interdisciplinary design - as part of an integrated BIM design lab, a research-led teaching platform connecting researchers, students and industry, we explore the interactions between people, process and technology, particularly issues related to BIM tools. We act as an incubator for future innovative research and development.
We are currently developing a digital platform for flexible, affordable housing using BIM and parametric design (Housing 4.0) as well as parametric tools for flexible structures for resource-efficient production (BIM_Flexi).
The collaboration within the GCD - Center for Geometry and Computational Design at TU Wien - provides cutting-edge research in the field of computational design in AEC involving the faculties of Computer Science, Mathematics, Architecture and Civil Engineering and enables the generation of new knowledge about future design processes enhanced by digital technologies as well as the development of new customized digital design tools. FWF Special Research Program: "Advanced Computational Design, opens an external URL in a new window", which we won together with GCD, has positioned us internationally in basic research in digital design.
