What is KinderuniTechnik?
KinderuniTechnik (Children's University of Technology) is part of the KinderuniWien initiative, which was launched by the Children's Office of the University of Vienna. The aim of KinderuniTechnik is to arouse or promote interest in technology and natural sciences for the 7-12 year old girls and boys. The concept of the Children's University is based on the fact that children can experience the university as young students. Not only the attendance of individual lectures is offered, but the full university experience. All faculties offer workshops, seminars, lectures and excursions, thus giving the children an active insight into research at TU Wien.
The KinderuniTechnik is possible thanks to the commitment and engagement of motivated teachers who prepare their content from architecture to physics in a child-friendly manner and present their subject with passion. The support of the Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching, Kurt Matyas, guarantees that the Kinderuni will be firmly anchored as part of the promotion of young talent.
KinderuniTechnik is organized by the department PR and Marketing.
KinderuniOnline - Children's University online
This year the KinderuniTechnik looks very different from the last few years: there are no lectures, workshops or seminars, but exciting videos, podcasts, articles or infographics. The teachers have produced these in an entertaining and varied way for the young scientists.
The great thing about KinderuniOnline: There is no limit to the number of participants and there is no limited duration of the existing online formats. The children can decide when and where they want to view, read or listen to the KinderuniOnline programme.
For the young students there is a children's university magazine. It can be downloaded and printed out, ordered and picked up from the children's university office or sent by post for a fee. However, the two magazines are not necessary for the online formats, but provided as a gimmick for the Vienna Children's University.
Theme weeks of the Vienna Children's University
Every week a different university with new topics has been going online since July 6th:
- KinderuniWissenschaft 1
- KinderuniWissenschaft 2
- Schwerpunkt Klima&Energie
Family lecture on August 26th
As a highlight of the children's university there is a family lecture as an online livestream every Wednesday at 5 p.m. The scientists can be asked questions via chat. The live stream of TU Wien by Alexander Redlein will take place on August 26th: Living and Working in the Year 2030 - Technology is changing the way we live and work.
From July 8th to 11th 2019 the 12th Children's University Technology took place with over 2500 participants. The end of the children's university was on Saturday, July 20th 2019, the graduation ceremony at the University of Vienna.
40 courses were offered by TU Wien teachers and students from all faculties. As in previous years, the main location was the Campus Getreidemarkt. Infopoint and teaching point were the starting points for curious children for technology and science adventures. As a supporting program for the young students and also for waiting siblings WienXtra offered stations on which the children could do painting and experimentations.
