This is the last time, it will be quiet in the lecture room”. This is how academic director Prof. Haas opened his welcoming speech to the fourteen new students, who started their educational journey in Renewables on Thursday, November 4th, 2021 at TU Wien. He explains the high interactive character of the program and encourages discussion and exchange between students and faculty members.

Seven nations are represented in this year`s class, mirroring the highly international approach of the whole program. Throughout the next two years, the student group will be trained to become experts in planning and evaluating international projects in the field of alternative energy systems such as solar, wind or geothermal projects. They all bring prior first degrees in one or the other relevant field: technical, economical or legal.

After the welcoming words from academic director, Karin Mottl, the managing director from our partner Energiepark Bruck/Leitha and the program team, the class started a morning lecture full of team building activities. To get to know each other quickly, they introduced themselves to each other in a playful approach, guided by Prof. Fritz Stastny, member of the faculty team. They also shared their passions and expectations about the program. The participants share a common educational interest and goal but come from different backgrounds - they are brought together by their urge to take active steps towards a more sustainable future.

After this easy-going start, they already heard lectures on the principles of renewable energy and experienced a little throwback moment, when they had to face mathematical calculations last heard many years ago in high school. This first module is all about the underlying principles and getting all participants on the same page before they can dive in deeper during the upcoming two years that will prepare them for decision-making roles in the international renewables energy sector.

After their first lecture day, the program team joined them for a get-together at a typical Viennese restaurant next to the TU main campus.

We are looking forward to working with this new class and wish them a successful time at TU Wien.
