MSc Renewable Energy Systems students on an excursion to the Freudenau power plant

[Translate to English:] Freudenau

On March 13th, 2022, at the end of the course module on hydropower, the 17th round of the MSc program was given a tour of the Freudenau Danube power plant. The tour guide Herbert Wagner, who has been active on site since the start of construction of the power plant, guided them through the plant with a high level of technical expertise.

After information on the bandwidth of the Danube power plants, the functioning of this river power plant was explained in more detail. It then got really exciting during the in-depth inspection of the technical system. Equipped with safety helmets, the students moved from the machine hall to the basement and thus to the core – the turbines.

Although the turbines cannot be seen directly, they can be heard and, above all, felt. Impressed by the power of water, the students still had enough time and curiosity to ask a variety of technical questions.

The next practical part of the course follows in April, namely the country module in Denmark. We look forward to introduce the students to this progressive country and how it has taken on the role of a pioneer in Europe's energy transition.
