From Pattern to prediction – innovative tools for process characterization

Project Partner: BI, start 2019

Early stage process characterization enables quick decision making about process optimization during the fermentation process. Both E. coli and P. pastoris are simple expression systems that have been characterized profoundly in the past. Innovative characterization tools such as biotyping or mass spectrometry fingerprinting enable pattern comparison and process classification with very little sample consumption. Data acquisition is performed untargeted, data are collected for quick decision making, however also provide the possibility to identify and quantify specific proteins of interest if necessary. The development of a large process knowledge data base will enable efficient process learning.

A combination of mass spectrometry, pattern analysis and statistical tools is suggested to perform early stage process characterization & process comparison. Findings will be corroberated with proteome data.
