Defining authorship for publications and further academic works is not always a simple process and can even be challenging. In order to support researchers, the TU Wien Library together with the Research Ethics Coordination have written a guidance document on responsible authorship that describes the main aspects of authorship as well as non-author contributorships.

This document provides good practice recommendations for assigning credit in publications involving multiple authors. In addition, the document describes the CRediT Taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) that defines the 14 typical roles taken by contributors to scientific scholarly output. Finally, the document also contains many examples illustrating how different contributions can be attributed.
