Topic: Pandemic resilience. What have we learned?

The postgraduate Master's programme in Health Care Facilities (HCF), a joint project of the Vienna University of Technology and MedUni Vienna, will start in autumn 2023. This programme, which is unique in Europe, is aimed at students with a background in medicine, architecture, management, information technology, spatial planning or nursing. In the run-up to this, a series of interdisciplinary discussions on current challenges, the "HCF Breakout Sessions", will take place in the winter semester 2022/23. The first session on November 9^th 2022 will focus on the question of what we as users and planners have learned from the Corona pandemic.

The term "health care facilities" refers to the infrastructure that the health care system needs in order to provide its services. This includes in particular hospitals and care facilities, as well as generally all facilities for diagnosis, therapy and prophylaxis, which ideally result in a powerful, efficient and resilient holistic system.

The planning of these infrastructures is currently facing major challenges, which the HCF Breakout Sessions are addressing. "Break Out Sessions" they are called because they appeal to an audience from many disciplines, who can afford to cross interdisciplinary boundaries for an hour and a half. The first session on 9.11.2022 is dedicated to the question of the consequences of the Corona pandemic for current and future planning. The discussion partners are the infectiologist and hygienist Prof. Walter Zingg from the University Hospital Zurich and the architects Svenja Partheimüller and Christoph Falkner from SWAP-Architekten/ AHA – Austrian Healthcare Architects in Vienna. The moderators of the discussion are Prof. Michael Hiesmayr from MedUni Vienna and Prof. Christian Kühn from the Faculty of Architecture at TU Vienna.

The HCF Breakout Sessions are being held in the run-up to the postgraduate master's programme "Health Care Facilities", which will start in autumn 2023.
