An era comes to an end

[Translate to English:] Karin am SEM

At the end of April, Karin Whitmore will leave our team after more than 40(!) years of service and take her well-deserved retirement. Karin, a founding member of USTEM, has been responsible for scanning electron microscopy from the very beginning and was also an expert in cryo-FIB and ultramicrotomy. In the course of her work, she has successfully instructed hundreds of students in the use of the scanning electron microscope and supervised countless projects.

However, her speciality was bionics and the electron microscopic examination of biological structures, which she carried out together with Ille Gebeshuber. Karin was therefore all the more pleased that she was able to analyse butterfly wings again for her very last SEM examination.

We would like to thank Karin for her commitment and wish her all the best and, above all, good health for her retirement, which she will spend in Carinthia in the future.
