Dear colleagues,

I would like to thank you for your encouraging commitment during this stressful time.
As announced in my mailing on July 9th, 2020, in the last few weeks, my team and I have been working intensively on the concept for teaching in the winter semester 2020.

Attendance

Due to the extremely reduced capacities of the lecture rooms, the concept of the “semester lecture halls” was introduced, to enable study beginners in particular, in starting their studies at TU Wien as good as possible. However, this makes it necessary to rearrange or continue teaching in distance learning mode, wherever possible. The decision on duty of attendance is the responsibility of the respective Dean of Academic Affairs. It should also be noted that it may be necessary to tighten security measures during the summer months or during the semester.

Guide: Digital Teaching & Learning

A guide to digital teaching & learning at the TU Wien in the winter semester 2020, opens an external URL in a new window was developed, with the intention of supporting you with adapting teaching at a distance. This guide is available on coLAB, opens an external URL in a new window website as a PDF download.

Inside you will find instructions for implementing diverse online teaching formats customized specifically to the TU Wien. The guide also contains recommendations and standards for distance and hybrid learning/teaching. Thank to close cooperation with many different departments, various developments and processes could have been implemented very quickly. Those facilities will accompany us during the security measures times caused by Covid-19. For instance, adjustments in TISS, expansion in the LectureTube and streaming area, and improvement of planning processes for on-site teaching has been done.

Inspirations: Teachers help teachers

Under the motto "teachers help teachers", some colleagues have already shared their concepts, successfully implemented in the summer semester 2020 suggestions and inspirations for others. At the moment, most of the shared concepts on the coLAB website, come from finalists of 'the Best Teaching Award', opens an external URL in a new window. The amount of good practice examples should always increase though.

Workshop: 31.08. via GoToMeeting

The Distance Learning Team is holding a workshop on Monday, August 31, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. on the subject of "How do I best guide my students through the digital semester?", during which the guidelines will be presented and afterwards there will be time for questions. The workshop will take place under the following link via GoToMeeting, opens an external URL in a new window.

Thank you for your great support and understanding.
I wish you a nice summer and hope you will find enough time to relax.
