On 23 September 2021, two theses written at the Research Department for Foundation Engineering, Soil and Rock Mechanics at the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering were awarded the FSV Prize at an award ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Vienna. Both Manuel Dafert's thesis "Findings from measurements on the dynamic track stabiliser" and Julian Sigmund's thesis "Metrological recording and analysis of the movement behaviour of plate compactors in railway construction" involved investigations into compaction control in railway construction.

The two diploma theses prevailed against a total of 20 other submissions, confirming the high quality of these works.
