Managed by Schahram Dustdar of the Distributed Systems Group at the Institute of Information Systems the joint activities will focus on scientific research in the field of virtual software services (Gbots) and virtual robots for energy efficiency. Additionally the design and development strategy of Pacific Control Systems LLC - developer and provider of global total automation systems - will be reviewed by the scientists. The company is known as pioneer of the concept of city centric management of buildings and infrastructure which potentially reduces energy expenses severly.

Apart from research for various strategic scientific developments team members will provide access and training for the worldwide expanding company, e.g. at the headquarters in Dubai and the USA as well as in 24 cities where the company intends to establish Command Control Centers for managed services. Pacific Controls will offer internship opportunities for students from the Vienna University of Technology.

The Distributed Systems Group and Pacific Controls announced their cooperation in Cloud Computing research at the CeBIT conference in Hannover in March 2011.
