As part of the monthly alumni events of the TU Wien Academy for Continuing Education, an Expert Talk took place for the first time on October 4th, 2022. Professor Bob Martens, head of the real estate courses, welcomed Alexander Budasch - Austro Immo GmbH, opens an external URL in a new window at the TU Wien and emphasized how important the topic of sustainability is in the economy at the moment. To get examples and insights to practical experiences is particularly exciting.

Mr. Budasch began his presentation with an overview of the current real estate industry and analyzed the reasons why the "super cycle" is coming to an end this year. Important factors are new regulatory requirements (keyword “EU taxonomy”) and pressure from investors. In addition, the energy crisis, drastic building price increases and the interest rate turnaround that was initiated led to a broad pressure to act on for all market participants. All of this has increasingly changed the real estate market in recent years.

How do real estate developers deal with the current legal and economic framework in practice? In which direction are the markets developing and what are the consequences for the valuation and financing of real estate? He answered these questions using a project that Austro Immo GmbH, opens an external URL in a new window and ELA Real Estate Consulting, opens an external URL in a new window (Elke Auer) are realizing together in Feldkirch: the wooden system office building S'BÄRAHUS, opens an external URL in a new window.

The lecture ended with a lively discussion and subsequent personal talks over drinks and rolls.

We are already looking forward to the next Alumni TUesday on November 8th, 2022.
