Since 2018, the cities Lienz (Eastern Tyrol), Bruneck (Southern Tyrol), Spittal an der Drau and Hermagor (Carinthia) have been active in the strategic network SÜD ALPEN RAUM ® Southern Alpine Cities. Together, they are striving for the high-quality development of the four city centers. So far, however, there is no overall concept to integrate the previously implemented measures and to further develop them in a sustainable manner.
The interdisciplinary student project Städtequartett Südalpen (Quartet of Cities in the Southern Alps) was aimed at developing integrated spatial development concepts for the four city centers and to relate them to the entire SÜD ALPEN RAUM ® in a regional synthesis. 27 students from architecture and spatial planning worked on the following topics as part of their master's project (spatial planning) or design studio (architecture) in the winter semester of 2022:
1. center development concepts with different focal points
2. urban development framework for selected development areas
3. regional synthesis of the center development
Students worked in mixed teams consisting of architects and spatial planners. The development and design ideas were prepared in a graphically engaging manner and presented in a final presentation on 18.03.2022 at the Campus Technik Lienz. Among the participants were the city marketing manager of Lienz, Oskar Januschke, the project and promotion manager Jasmina Steiner, vice mayor Alexander Kröll, Michael Hohenwarter from the regional management Osttirol as well as Philipp Auer from the city and location marketing Hermagor. The guests were highly pleased with the visionary development ideas and design drafts presented by the students and promised to showcase them in various committees of the municipalities.
The results of the project were summarized in a publication, opens a file in a new window.
