SPEAKER: PROF OLIVIER MASSOL (CENTRALE SUPÉLEC) 

ABOUT SPEAKER: Olivier Massol is Professor of Economics at CentraleSupélec, Senior Research Fellow at the Sustainable Economy Research Group (Industrial Engineering Laboratory), and Honorary Research Fellow at City, University of London (Center for Competition anc Regulatory Policy. He is also a member of the Scientific Council of the French Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission de Régulation de l’Énergie, CRE). 

His research interests are in the fields of the economics of energy and natural resources; the modeling of energy systems, infrastructure regulation, and technology policy (e.g., CCUS, CDR, Hydrogen). Some of his scholarly contributions also focus on price formation in commodity markets and international energy trade. Methodologically, he works with a strong emphasis on the application of quantitative techniques (microeconomics, econometrics, operations research, game theory, and engineering) to inform regulatory practices, guide policymaking, and support investor decision-making.

SPEAKER: CHRISTIAN SCHÜTZENHOFER (AIT Center for Energy, Vienna, Austria)

ABOUT SPEAKER:

Christian Schützenhofer has been a Senior Expert Advisor at the AIT Center for Energy since 2021. He holds degrees in theoretical physics, pure mathematics, and electrical engineering, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in management and operations research at the University of Vienna.

For nearly ten years, he built and led a technical consultancy focusing on industrial energy efficiency and implementation projects. At AIT, he leads national research and industry projects aimed at decarbonizing the Austrian industrial sector.

SPEAKER: DR. HAO CHEN (MÄLARDALEN UNIVERSITY, SWEDEN)

ABOUT SPEAKER: Dr. Hao Chen is an Associate Senior Lecturer at Mälardalen University, specializing in Sustainable Energy Systems within the School of Business, Society and Engineering.

He obtained this Ph.D. in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics from Chongqing Unversity (China), with part of his doctoral research conducted at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), focusing on cyber-physical modeling of energy systems.

At Mälardalen University, Dr. Chen has served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and now as an Assistant Professor, leading projects on hybrid renewable energy systems, biofuel production, and digital twins for process optimization. He contributes actively to several EU Horizon Europe projects, including SUPREMAS and IFAISTOS, and serves on international committees such as the ASME Digital Twin and Cyber-Physical Systems Committee.

His lecture will focus on "The Role of Hydrogen in Future Energy Systems".

SPEAKER: ASS. PROF. ARTHUR SCHWEIDTMANN (DELFT UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, NETHERLANDS)

ABOUT SPEAKER: Dr. Artur M. Schweidtmann is an assistant professor for Process Systems Engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.

His research focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in chemical process engineering. His research group develops algorithms and decision support tools for process development and engineering.

He received a Ph.D. in 2021 and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2017, both from RWTH Aachen in Germany. During his studies, he spent the academic year 2013/14 at Carnegie Mellon University and performed his Master thesis at the University of Cambridge. He received W. David Smith Graduate Publication Award from AIChe (2024) and the Senior Moulton medal from IChemE (2024).

Celebrating Women in STEM

We are thrilled to share the success of a recent event we have organized in collaboration with Women Techmakers, opens an external URL in a new window, “International Women's Day 2024 Women in STEM - Career Aspects”! 

We all have the power and the responsibility to impact the future of technology and society. What will that future look like? And how will we build it? We can use our skills, creativity and passion to create positive change and solve the problems that matter to us and our communities. We can also inspire the next generation of women in tech who will continue to impact the future with their own ideas and innovations.

“International Women's Day 2024 Women in STEM - Career Aspects” was an event that aimed to celebrate and empower women in technology. It took place at TU Wien on April 18th, 2024. The event featured successful women in tech who shared their career paths and the challenges they faced as leading females in the field.

The speeches were followed by a workshop entitled “Create your Career” workshop provided a strategic framework for attendees to navigate their career paths, set goals, and chart their course in the tech industry. It was an invaluable opportunity for growth and networking.

We aimed to empower and celebrate the incredible women in technology, and it was truly inspiring to see the community come together.
