Translating biological insight into efficient, data-driven biomanufacturing solutions

We develop bridging strategies between molecular biosciences, process engineering, and industrial scale-up to create biotechnological production platforms for recombinant protein production, biopharmaceuticals, and sustainable technologies. At the core of our work lies the transformation of omics-data and mechanistic understanding into engineered strains, robust bioprocesses, and integrated production systems, guided by quantitative modelling, automation, and real-time monitoring.

We apply principles of Quality by Design, mechanistic modelling, soft sensors, and process dynamics to optimize bioprocesses from the lab to pilot scale. Our aim is to generate high-value bioproducts in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible way. Through collaborations with industry and research partners, we translate biological insights into sustainable platforms that serve both chemical- and pharmaceutical-industry needs.

The group for industrial (or white) biotechnology develops focuses on the development of bioprocesses which aim to generate products of the chemical industry as well as bioenergy or fuels in a sustainable way. To achieve this goal, methods from metabolic engineering, bioprocess development, systems biology and metabolic modeling are used to implement and scale-up sustainable bioproduction scenarios.
