Prof. Franz Winter is a national as well as international recognised expert in the field of high temperature processes i.e. combustion & environment technology as well as metallurgical processes.

Prof. Winter has more than twenty years experience in the area of high temperature chemical engineering contributing to the development of new processes as well as process and product optimization together with partners from industry and research.

In his habilitation (2000) Prof. Franz Winter developed the Concept of Chemical Similarity for Gas – Solid Processes. He headed the Christian Doppler Laboratory of Chemical Engineering at High Temperatures from 2001-2008.

In 2008 he received the Arnold-Eucken-Award from the German Chemical Engineering Society (VDI-GVC).

He is the Austrian representative of the International Energy Agency – Fluidized Bed Conversion Group since 1999 and co-editor of the Handbook of Combustion (Wiley 2010). He was chaiman and host of the 19^th Int. Fluidized Bed Combustion Conference in 2006 and of the 4^th European Combustion Meeting in 2009. He is head of the research group Reaction Engineering & Combustion and Deputy Scientific Director of the Doctoral College Energy Systems 2030 at TU Wien.

• Environmental technology (Urban Mining, recycling, waste, NO_x, N₂O, SO₂, HCl, CO₂, ash, heavy metals removal, phosphorous)
• Chemical Process Engineering (Catalysis, Oxichlorination)
• Fuel technology (coal, biomass, oils, waste material)
