Mission Statement

The Network of Mentors of Responsible Research Practices consists of TU Wien scientists who are dedicated to supporting responsible research practices at TU Wien. All mentors are established scientists who also act as supervisors in their fields. As part of the network, mentors are contact persons for students and thesis supervisors who need support in relation to questions of responsible research practices (research ethics, research integrity, and potential societal implications of their work).

The network builds on the idea that supervisors and mentors have a major impact on the ethical development of students (Krásničan et al. 2024). The Service Unit of Responsible Research Practices supports the organisation of regular meetings and acts as a sounding board for difficult situations and questions.

The main target group of mentors are master students, but mentors can decide on a case-by-case basis to support bachelor students as well. PhD students may want to approach the  Research Ethics Committee (TUW REC).

The role of a mentor is to be a supportive consultant, who can also serve as link to respective resources or contact-points at TU Wien and beyond. A helpful list of resources and contact points is available here, opens in new window

The Network aims at including Mentors from each Faculty. In case you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact the Service Unit Responsible Research Practices (ethics@tuwien.ac.at).

Students or supervisors who need support may contact a Mentor from their Faculty directly or write an e-mail to ethics@tuwien.ac.at.
