Following the European Commission's suggestion, the EOSC Association, opens an external URL in a new window organised the EOSC Winter School to address the need for a collective knowledge environment that promotes an inclusive and interconnected research ecosystem for all consortium partners contributing to EOSC, which emerged during the latest coordination meetings. The first EOSC Winter School focussed over three days on providing an in-depth understanding of EOSC relevant developments. The discussions included policy recommendations, concrete case studies, and information exchange on future models. The event was held at the Mediterranean Palace, offering a focused environment for mutual learning and networking. Participants and organisers welcomed the Winter School as a very successful initiative, and plans will be made to repeat it in future.

The European Open Science Cloud

The ambition of the EOSC is to develop a ‘Web of FAIR Data and Services’ for science in Europe. EOSC will be a multi-disciplinary environment where researchers can publish, find and re-use data, tools and services, enabling them to better conduct their work. EOSC builds on existing infrastructure and services supported by the European Commission, Member States, and research communities. It brings these together in a federated ‘system of systems’ approach, adding value by aggregating content and enabling services to be used together. This environment will operate under well-defined conditions to ensure trust and safeguard the public interest. Expectations of service providers and users will be made explicit to ensure appropriate behaviour.
